CAoS: Cambridge Art of Sound Festival; Big Bang Theory and Rapademic

CAoS: Big Bang Theory on Monday 31st July-Friday 4th August in J1 from 12 noon.

Are you keen to learn about mixing live sound for gigs? Are you interested in technical theatre?

Big Bang Theory, is an intensive course focusing on the technical aspects of live sound. Throughout the week, you will work with industry professional Paddy Matthews on understanding basic electrics, PA design, stagecraft, front of house and monitor speakers and operation of mixing desks.

The week will culminate in mixing the sound for Cambridge Junction’s High Fiver in our 850 capacity venue J1. High Fiver is an event showcasing the best of Cambridge’s emerging music scene.

Paddy Matthews is a Cambridge based sound technician with over 25 years experience in the industry. He has toured with acts including The Streets, Motorhead and The Pogues, working on live sound at venues and festivals across the UK, Europe and beyond.

Having worked at Cambridge Junction for several years Paddy is currently part of the Cambridge Live team who operate venues including Cambridge Corn Exchange. He comes to lead the Big Bang Theory direct from running the sound desk at Cambridge Folk Festival’s Club Tent.

Please note that this opportunity is only open to young people aged 16+

Please note that you MUST be available for the whole duration of the course.

If successful, a place on the course costs £60 for the week.

CAoS: Rapademic on Thursday 3rd August from 7pm

Now in its third year, Rapademic promises to be another fantastic showcase of some of Cambridge’s finest up and coming urban talent. Kick start your summer and Cambridge Junction’s CAoS Festival, with this edgy mix of young lyricists, MCs and DJs. Tickets are £6 each. All under 14s must be accompanied by an adult.

The Rapademic event is being produced by young people, aged 13 – 21, selected as a result of their work through Romsey Mill’s well established music programmes.

Cambridge Junction staff and Creative Learning team have been working with a group of young leaders from Romsey Mill on every aspect of the event, from planning to marketing and programming with the ambition of building the group’s leadership and event production skills.

The event offers a professional music platform to emerging young artists.Talent has been nurtured and honed for performance thanks to the dedicated support of Romsey Mill’s staff team.
