Queen Edith’s Walks – No.7: “Know Your Place”

The Queen Edith’s Community Forum has published a free, 32-page booklet called “Summer in Queen Edith’s”, with local walks and activities for all the family.

This is one of a number of walks produced as part of the Summer in Queen Edith’s booklet in July 2020. You can find out more here about the booklet and the other walks and activities in it.

This walk will encourage you to look at the details of the housing and shops which were built in Queen Edith’s from the late 1800s onwards, as Cambridge city spread southwards.

The walk was produced as a quiz by the Friends of Rock Road Library in 2016, so one or two small details may have changed in the meantime (‘Blazing Saddles’ cycle shop is now Numark Pharmacy, for example). They say: The quiz is suitable for children aged 7 and over (accompanied by an adult). We also hope that older children and adults as individuals, in pairs or small groups, will enjoy taking part. Just follow the route shown on the map, look around carefully, answer the questions and complete the tasks (take a book to lean on for the sketching). There is no fixed time to complete the trail – allow roughly two hours but you do not have to finish in one go! There are plenty of possible refreshment stops on the route.

The detailed route and quiz is available here.
